The following two images are representative light microscope sections of rat luminal epithelium tissue upon sacrifice after instillation of protamine sulfate (an irritant to the bladder lining).

• The image on the left corresponds to exposure to protamine sulfate after pre-treatment with saline.
  
• The image on the right corresponds to exposure to protamine sulfate after pre-treatment with Lipella's liposomes.

Notice that the mucosal barrier of the saline treated bladder is disrupted, while the liposome treated bladder remain relatively intact.
