Liposomal Coating

The following fluorescent microscope images demonstrate the distribution of fluorescently labeled liposomes in a representative cross-section of a rat’s luminal epithelium post sacrifice eight hours after the liposomal suspension was instilled. The left side of each image corresponds topologically to the luminal side, and the right side of the image corresponds to the tissue.

Barrier

  • The leftmost of the three images is a fluorescence image indicating the distribution of fluorescently labeled liposomes.

  • The rightmost image is an optical light microscopy image of the same tissue in the same position.

  • The center image is a rendition of the two images (light microscopy and fluorescent label) superimposed on each other.

Note that the fluorescence is limited to the luminal surface, and has very limited penetration into the depth of the tissue.
